Professional Profile
What I've learned, What I've done, Where I'm going
Working in the field of education since 1997, I've had the opportunity to work with an incredibly diverse set of students, clients, colleagues and instructors. Here's a snapshot:
Manager, Emerging Learning Models
September 2016 - January 2020
The only constants when working with The Center for Teaching, Learning and Innovation at Lethbridge College are great leadership, great collaboration, and a brisk rate of change - and that's the way I like it! I have moved through a number of roles during my time with LC: Academic Strategist (with a focus on Accessibility Services), Digital Learning Consultant, Learning Experience Designer, and now Manager of Emerging Learning Models. I cannot begin to express the richness of this environment for leveraging creativity into tangible resources that support others in their work.
It has been an honor to work in each of these roles. I've had the opportunity to work directly with students to develop academic strategies for success. I have worked in-depth with Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMC) and supported faculty in learning to use this tool to enhance delivery. I have collaborated with leaders in program review and development, as well as interdisciplinary teams on institutional projects. Most recently, I have built a team dedicated to supporting non-credit learning experience design, and am journeying into study of leadership models and approaches.
Course Developer and contract marker
I thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to work with Alberta Distance Learning in the Sr Mathematics Department. During my time at ADLC, I focused on developing course materials for Math 31 Calculus, but also marked student work for Math 30-1, 30-2 and 31.
June 2016-Oct 2017
Student
May 2015- April 2017
By this time in my career, I came to realize that I had an acute interest in education technologies, blended course design, educational theory, and research. The time I spent completing a Master's Degree with the University of Calgary studying Educational Research in Education Technologies provided me with a solid foundation in all of these areas. (GPA 3.9)
Instructor
September 2007 - Aug 2015
For 8 years, I worked as a mathematics instructor in the Academic Upgrading Department of Grande Prairie Regional College. It was here that my interest for educational technology sprouted from interest to practice. During my time at GPRC, I delved into MOODLE as a learning management system, adaptive learning technologies and blended course design (though I didn't realize that's what I was doing until I began a Master's Degree with the University of Calgary in 2015).
Teacher
September 2002-December 2006
My first work in formal education began in my hometown, teaching English and Math at the school I graduated from. It was such a wonderfully rich environment for a new teacher to earn her coffee mug! Here I was nominated by my school division for the Edwin Parr Award for first year teachers.
Collections and Education Assistant
June 1997 - Dec 2001
When I was younger, I spent time at museums. I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the University of Alberta's Department of Museums and Collections Services helping to design tours and educational resources for school groups to experience this diverse collection. The Peace River Centennial Museum and Archives houses artifacts and documents related to the history of the Peace Region. I worked closely with this collection to develop programs for both formal and informal education.
